TAMARINDO LIFEGUARDS TOWER

AS PART OF LSD COMMUNITY COMMITMENT, LSD DONATED THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION SUPERVISION OF TAMARINDO LIFEGUARD TOWER. THIS PROJECT WAS PROMOTED BY THE LOCAL ASSOCIATION OF DEVELOPMENT (ADIT) AND WAS PROPOSED TO BE LOCATED RIGHT ON THE BEACH WHERE IT COULD SERVE ITS PURPOSE. THE DESIGN WAS INSPIRED BY THE VERNACULAR ARCHITECTURE OF THE GUANACASTE AREA. PAINTED WOODEN HORIZONTAL SLATS CREATE A LIGHT STRUCTURE THAT COPIES ITS ENVIRONMENT LIKE A CHAMELEON, WHILE IT ALSO MAINTAINS ADEQUATE VENTILATION. THE TOWER IS A WOODEN STRUCTURE SUSPENDED ABOVE THE LEVEL OF THE SAND, ACCESSIBLE BY USE OF A RAMP FOR EMERGENCIES AND WITH ENOUGH SPACE TO ATTEND TO PATIENTS AND STORE EQUIPMENT. ITS PARABOLOID ROOF ALSO CREATES AN ORGANIC SHAPE RESEMBLING NATURAL GEOMETRY AND CREATES ENOUGH OVERHANG FOR PROPER PROTECTION FROM THE RAIN, WIND AND SUN.
